Buffalo Hump

Buffalo hump is an overgrowth of the fat overlying the mid upper back, just below the posterior neck. This socially embarrassing hump is genetically determined in some individuals and gets more pronounced around puberty and with weight gain. Occasionally, some people develop this secondary to HIV virus, a disorder known as “HIV lipodystrophy”.

Dr Zayour treats this condition with laser liposuction. The result is seen immediately after the procedure that takes only 30 minutes and with continuing improvement over the subsequent. It is a quick and very safe procedure considering that buffalo hump is a just a lump of very resistant fat with no nearby important structures at risk. For some patients, Dr Maya treats their buffalo humps with injection lipolysis over 4-6 sessions, at 3-4 weeks intervals.
