Laser Liposuction

Men and women can accumulate excess fat that is not easily shed with exercise and diet. In the early 1980s, dermatologic surgeons developed tumescent liposuction that allowed for an easy and effective way of removal of these stubborn fatty deposits.

Laser Liposuction involves the use of laser to “melt” the fatty layer under the skin followed by suctioning of the burnt fat using tiny cannulas and without the need for surgery. The result is sculpting of bulging areas into more attractive contours.

This procedure is done under local or general anesthesia and does not require hospital stay.

Smaller Incision, Less Swelling: With Laser Liposuction, laser liquefies the fat, causing far less tissue damage than traditional liposuction—and fewer side effects such as bleeding, swelling or bruising. Instead of needing a week to recover, you need only a day or so.

Laser Tightens the Skin: In addition, laser stimulates the formation of new collagen, thus offering the added advantage of plumping up and tightening the skin in the treated area. This is especially true for areas with laxity of the skin such as the arms and the neck.

Targets Areas Traditional Lipo May Not: Because the laser melts the fat, Laser Liposuction works very nicely for areas with fibrous tissues such as male breasts (gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia) and for corrections or re-do liposuction. Laser Liposuction has also wonderful results in treating large lipomas with no scarring as compared to surgical excision.

Like any intervention, Laser Liposuction carries both benefits and risks. When performed by a qualified doctor, Laser Liposuction has minor side effects such as skin irregularity, lumpiness and infections. These are rare and are usually easily corrected.

Laser Liposuction is most effective for removing localized fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise. It is not intended as a substitute for weight loss; rather, it is a contouring procedure and is optimally used in a program of exercise and weight maintenance.

Laser Liposuction can safely remove undesired fat from nearly all body areas including the face, neck, chin, abdomen, hips, flanks (love handles), back, inner and outer thighs, knees, calves and ankles. It also is an effective treatment for non-cosmetic conditions such as lipomas (benign fatty tumors), and excessive underarm sweating.

It can also be used to remove unwanted fat in the male breasts.

First, Dr. Maya will mark on your body the precise areas to be treated. Then she injects a special solution under your skin. A small incision (1 to 3 millimeters) is made in the skin, laser is used to melt the fat and tighten the skin. The fat is suctioned out.

The length of the procedure will depend on how large is the area treated, but most treatment sessions last from 1 to 3 hours. Most patients require one treatment session only. However, if a particularly large amount of fat is being removed, you may need a second session. This is usually scheduled several months after the main one.

Dr. Maya encourages her patients to walk immediately after the procedure. They can go back to work within a few days. Physical exercise can be resumed 1-2 weeks after the procedure.

Laser Liposuction has an unprecedented safety profile, and allows for efficient removal of both deep and superficial excess layers of fat with little discomfort, fast recovery, and very nice cosmetic results. The technology for laser-assisted liposuction is being constantly improved and updated. Dr. Maya Zayour is highly skilled and experienced with this technology and will advise you on which option is best for you.
